His Very Epic Sirness PuddlePup II
This is Sir Winston. He’s a beautiful Bassett Hound. He’s the colour of Thornton’s Special Toffee and probably twice as popular.

He is not just a dog.
He’s not even just a royal dog.

He’s the most brilliantly aloof and awesome companion to Carmen and Keith, two of the loveliest people on the face of the earth… and best friend to everyone he meets.
He loves sleeping and erm…. sleeping.
….And getting fawned over by his ever-growing fanclub….
And avoiding walkies. … by sleeping…
Why is he a puddlepup? Well… How to get 2 biscuits out of a total Stranger / Winston Lesson no. 1: As you approach the car, throw yourself on the floor and pretend to be dead ! Stranger comes running along, all panicked and asking: “Is he alright?! Is he alright?!”

You then sit up, give him the droopy eye look and you will be rewarded with lots of fuss and biscuits ! RESULT !
Mumble saw the photo accompanying the above lesson, and aged only 3, asked why the doggy had turned into a puddle. After explaining in a way she could understand, her giggles arising from this particular brand of epicness rang through the house for ages.
Seriously, this dog is a LEGEND.
Aside from trying to talk his minions into letting him raid the toffee tin,

“His Sirness” spends most of his time avoiding walkies and checking that his secret stash of butcher’s bones is still intact.
He brings joy to the lives of so many around the world, just by being himself.
I’m pretty certain we can all learn from an example like that.

So, when I was asked by Carmen to immortalise Sir Winston in the form of a hat, I jumped at the opportunity. What an awesome subject, and a totally adorable face to construct in my own unique, woolly way.
She sent me this photo:

I was ridiculously excited and soon started brooding about the ways in which I could bring a Woolly Winston to life…. Especially those fantastic expressive ears.
I admired his photos. I researched the breed online. I fondled yarn. With the help of a dear friend, I sourced the perfect shade of Russett to work with… (can you believe that there is no such thing as “bassett hound brown” or “Shade of His Sirness”?!) I know. RUDE.
Finally I had the yarn, I had the idea. All that was left was to make my vision a reality. See my Mumblicious interpretation of this handsome boy here!
Grateful thanks to Carmen for her permission to feature his highness, and to Carmen, Mike Davies and Al Jones for their permission to use their gorgeous photography.
