At Last! I Can Tell You!!!

You have all waited so very patiently… and finally I can stop teasing you and share the top secret project I have been working so very hard on to complete! So very long ago I was asked by RACPA UK to help by making a very special sentimental item for one of their followers. They wanted a woolly version of a very special car:       Mmmkay… Car… yarn… never-been-done-before… awesome… epic….details… no brainer answer: YES!!! I couldn’t begin straight away because of outstanding half made orders… and I was ITCHING to start!

So I began brooding… Every one of my original designs comes only after days, weeks or months of brooding… rolling the idea around my head… making hundreds of decisions, looking at photos, real cars, deconstructing shapes, calculating…

Then there’s a lot of scribbling… sketches, numbers, more calculations, mood boards, colour collecting, scaling the proportions just right on paper…

Finally I can get to work with yarn. I go searching in my stores… I choose just the right shades of all the colours… I check and recheck my calculations to make sure I have enough before I start. I go button hunting in my jars… I gather together filling, order anything else I’ll need… all of it goes in a basket ’til I’m finished.

Although I have made a car hat before I’d never made a car sculpture. So I started with the most complex bit, the roof… that would dictate exactly how big the rest of the car would turn out, and if I needed to adjust my calculations.

Everything goes to plan… any adjustments are minor and easily made. The construction of the several bits and pieces begins… a day later… It was gloriously complete.
