The As Yet Nameless Gloves and Cowl

What feels like a hundred years ago, I was gifted a ball of scrumptious yarn by a wonderful friend.  The shades of blue and white are simply delicious, and the yarn itself is soft as soft can be.  Gnome-made and Nerd Flavoured is definitely the right description for yarns from Gnomeacres.  Although the colourway I’m using here is now discontinued, there are plenty more gorgeous combinations like theseFullscreen capture 26042014 071940
on her site. Yum.

Anyway… This yarn has been used to start about 6 “just because” projects.  None of which seemed right… so it’s been returned to a ball each time, the 218 yards intact… until yesterday when I started the way I always do, with a ball of yarn and a hook, making a chain. The hookers day off project hasn’t had a completion in a little while and there is nothing to say I couldn’t make something small…

There’s something wonderfully calming to me about working with yarn, making loop after loop and seeing the fabric grow in my fingers.  It’s soothing and relaxing, and the fact that I end up with something cool or pretty at the end of it makes it a totally worthwhile way of spending time. 😀2014-04-25 16.47.19

What was coming from my hook yesterday wasn’t a product of a foreseen product which I was aiming to achieve, but a freeflowing see-what-happens kind of adventure, where I had very little clue of how the item I would have at the end would look.  I just worked, enjoying the mindless, gentle monotony of my craft, indulging in that subtle, fulfilling freedom from thought which working freeform allows. More yum.

So, here it is.  The yet to be named fingerless gloves and cowl, a perfect addition to any spring wardrobe. Pattern coming soon. 😀2014-04-25 16.46.21
